In this deeply moving story of unrequited, Joan Fountain stars as Lisa Berndia, a woman obsessed with a concert pianist Stefan Brand (Louis Jourdan) who is so self-centered that he doesn’t remember her from one rendezvous to the next. She first falls in love with him at the age of 15, but her family must leave Vienna and so the two lovers must part. Returning to Viena three years later, she runs into him, and through him, and though he doesn’t remember who she is, they spend the night together. The next day he leaves promising to return, but never does. Pregnant with Stefan’s child, she turns to a kindly older man who consents to marry her. Many years pass, and once again she meets and gives herself to her one true love. Realizing that again he does not remember who she is, she declares her unfulfilled love to him in a letter that he receives just as the story rushes to its tragic conclusion.
